Only three kilometers separate the Keber paternal house in Zegla (Cormons) from the vineyards in Slovenia. From Collio to Brda. The gently rolling hills of forest and vineyards create a magical panorama, oblivious to the years of wars during which militarized borders and short-sighted political visions set inhabitants of neighboring countries against one another, who instead longed only to coexist peacefully. While the times have calmed and the dividing walls brought down, to understand this premise is to understand the dynamics of the territory. Most citizens of these lands have family ties in Slovenia when it is not native to them. And so it is for Kristian Keber.
In fact, he inherited the vineyards from his maternal grandfather. "Two hectares of a dream", the young enthusiastic Kristian defined his vineyard in Medana. The scent of the woods and wild herbs that embrace the ponca, sandstone marl of Eocene origin with millenary stratifications, rich in salts and microelements that nourish the vines - all transmitting unmistakable organoleptic qualities to the wines. Rows of Malvasia Istriana, Friulano and Ribolla Gialla vines, about fifty years old, trained by Guyot, trace a path that closes like an amphitheater. With low yields and biodynamic farming practices, Kristian’s resulting Kmetija Brda is a pale “orange wine” macerated on its skins for 12 days, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in large barrels for two years.
