Domaine de Baal

In Lebanon’s northeastern corner rises one of the most celebrated sanctuaries of the ancient world: Baalbek, named after the Phoe- nician deity Baal, god of fertility, and home to the great Roman temple of Bacchus, god of wine. For centuries, the Phoenicians greatly influenced the culture of this part of the world and were the first to export wine produced in what has become modern Lebanon throughout the Mediterranean basin.

Domaine de Baal is nestled 1200 meters high in the limestone folds on the west side of Mount Lebanon, overlooking the Bekaa Valley, a fertile lands that was once called the “wheat attic” of the Romans. Baal’s first plantations date back to 1994 but it was only in 2006, after spending years in Saint Emilion, that owner and winemaker Sebastien Khoury returned to Lebanon and produced the first vintage of the estate. A respect for nature is foremost on Khoury’s mind who planted his seven hectares to organically grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. Once harvested, the grapes find their sanctuary in a vaulted cellar built halfway underground.

Domaine de Baal - a property where all efforts have been devoted to capturing the essence of the soil and grape in the bottle...
